EPF Balance Check
Checking your Employees Provident Fund (EPF) balance helps you see how much you have saved for retirement and make sure both you and your employer are adding money regularly. You can check your balance online using your UAN on the EPFO website or through the UMANG app.
If you don't have your UAN handy, you can still check your balance by giving a missed call or sending an SMS from your registered mobile number. These options let you quickly see your latest contributions and total balance.
Check EPF Balance Using UAN Number (Online)
You can check your PF balance online using your UAN in this simple way:
- Steps:Go to the EPFO passbook website.Log in with your UAN, password, and the code shown on the screen.Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.Choose your Member ID.Click on "View Passbook".
After this, you will see your passbook with three parts:
Employee Share: Money you put inEmployer Share: Money your employer puts inPension (EPS): A part of your employer's money that goes to your pension fundThis will show your total PF balance and recent updates.
- Steps:Download the UMANG app from the Play Store or App Store.Open the app and go to Services Social Security EPFO.Under Employee Services, tap View Passbook.Enter your UAN and type the OTP sent to your mobile number.After logging in, select your employer account.
You will see your EPF passbook with all your deposits and withdrawals. You can also download it if you want.
- Steps:Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number.The call will cut automatically after 1-2 rings.You will get an SMS with your PF details (Member ID, last contribution, and total balance).
- Steps:Send an SMS to 77382 99899 from your registered mobile number.Type the message like this: EPFOHO UAN ENG
The last three letters show the language you want.
You can change ENG (English) to another language code, like:

Keep these simple things in mind when checking your PF balance on the EPFO website:

If you see a message like "Passbook not available for this Member ID", it usually means you work in an exempted company.
In such companies, your PF money is handled by a company trust, not by EPFO. So, you cannot check your balance on the EPFO website.

Why You Can't Check Your PF Balance
If you are having trouble checking your PF balance, it may be because of one of these reasons:
- Mobile number not linked
You must use the same mobile number that is linked with your UAN. If you changed your number, update it on the EPFO website.
- UAN not active
Even if you have a UAN, it will not work unless you activate it online.
- Details do not match
If your Aadhaar name and PF account name are different, your KYC will fail, and services may stop. You will need to fix it using a Joint Declaration Form.
- Passbook not showing
This can happen if:
You work in an exempt company, orYou just activated your UAN. Wait up to 24 hours after activation.
