Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is introduced under Section 4 of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013. It aims to improve the health and nutrition of mothers and their babies. It also provides financial support to make up for any wage loss during the maternity period.

For First Instalment

Key Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), cash incentives are provided for the first two children, with specific conditions:
For the First Child
- 1st Instalment (?3,000): This installment is given after pregnancy registration and at least one prenatal check-up within 6 months from the last menstrual period (LMP). It is provided at an Anganwadi Centre or an approved health facility.
- 2nd Instalment (?2,000): This installment is given after childbirth is registered. And, the child has received all required vaccines up to 14 weeks as per the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP).
For the Second Child (only forthe Girl Child)
- Single Instalment (?6,000): This installment is given after pregnancy registration and one prenatal check-up within 6 months from the last menstrual period. The girl's birth must be registered. Also, she must receive all required vaccines up to 14 weeks of age under the UIP.
In case of miscarriage or stillbirth, the woman will be treated as a new beneficiary during any future pregnancy and can reapply for the benefit.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana Eligibility Criteria
Here is the list of eligible women who can apply for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana:
- The applicant must be a pregnant woman aged 19 years or above.
- She should be employed and facing wage loss due to pregnancy.
- The scheme is available only for the first live birth.
- The beneficiary must apply within 270 days from the date of childbirth.
- If the second pregnancy results in at least one girl child, she will receive ?6,000.
- Any woman who belongs to the given economic and social backward group is also included:
- Belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) or Scheduled Tribes (ST).
- Women who are 40% or more disabled.
- BPL Ration Card holders.
- PMJAY (Ayushman Bharat) beneficiaries.
- Women with an e-Shram card.
- Women farmers registered under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi.
- Holders of MGNREGA Job Cards.
- Families with an annual income of less than ?8 lakh.
- Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), Helpers (AWHs), and ASHAs who are pregnant or lactating.
- Women with ration cards under the NFSA (National Food Security Act), 2013.
- Any other category notified by the Central Government.
